Dhanbari Nawab Palace and Mosque
ধনবাড়ী নবাব প্যালেস ও মসজিদ
The estate of Nawab Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury in Dhanbari, with a palace, a richly decorated mosque and a big pond.
Dhanbari was the seat of Nawab Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury, a 19th–20th century zamindar who was among the founders of Dhaka University and an early advocate of Bengali as a state language. His family home, locally called the Nawab Palace or Nawab Manzil, stands beside a large pond and an old mosque, possibly Mughal in origin, that the Nawab enlarged and decorated inside with floral chini-tikri (broken china) mosaic. The family also produced Mohammad Ali of Bogra, a prime minister of Pakistan. The mosque is open for prayer and visitors; the palace is best seen from its grounds.
How to get there
From Tangail town take a bus toward Madhupur/Dhanbari, then a rickshaw or auto to the Nawab Bari.
