Chandrabati lived in the 16th century in Patuabhanga village near Kishoreganj town and is widely regarded as the first woman poet in the Bengali language. Her retelling of the Ramayana and the tragic ballads tied to her life form part of the Mymensingh Gitika. A small, tall Shiva temple said to have been built by her father Dwija Bangshidas still stands near her home site. It is a quiet, moving place for anyone interested in Bengali literature.

How to get there

Auto or CNG from Kishoreganj town to Patuabhanga, about 20–30 minutes.
