Garo, Hajong and Koch Communities
গারো, হাজং ও কোচ সংস্কৃতি
Indigenous communities in the Sherpur hills keep their own languages, festivals and village crafts.
The hill areas of Jhenaigati, Nalitabari and Sreebardi are home to Garo, Hajong, Koch, Barman and other indigenous communities. Many keep their own languages, matrilineal or clan-based customs, and harvest festivals such as the Garo Wangala. Weaving, bamboo craft and distinctive foods are part of village life. The best way to learn more is through a local guide or community-run homestay.
